June is a month filled with celebration, graduations, weddings, and anniversaries. It is a wonderful time to thank God for the ways that you are blessed.
Last night I dreamed that I was attending a play. Just as the play was about to start, I woke up. I was really disappointed not to know what the play was going to be about. Then I started thinking that life is like that. We do not know what will happen until it happens.
That reminded me of a song in the play “Fiddler on the Roof” called “To Life.” As they celebrate the marriage of their children, the main character Tevye says “God would like us to be joyful even when our hearts lie panting on the floor.” And Lazar says, “How much more can we be joyful when there’s really something to be joyful for.”
I like that theology, to rejoice in all situations, even when it is difficult. The apostle Paul says in Philippians 4:12-13 “I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty, in any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and being hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Like the play in my dream, we do not know what will happen next, but we know that whatever happens, we are with God. So, in the meantime, let us gratefully celebrate all the gifts of life this June, thanking God for the blessings, and hold on to see what will happen next knowing that the love of God will sustain us in all circumstances.
Blessings of life,
